Financial Accountant

164968
Accounting and Finance
Blenheim, Marlborough
August 18, 2026
  • Newly Created Role
  • Fast Growing National Group
  • Based in Blenheim (or remote for the right candidate)

Monarch Platform is a fast growing, acquisitive national group with operations across Marlborough, Hawke’s Bay, Bay of Plenty, Tasman and Southland. Based primarily in Marlborough, right in the heart of New Zealand’s horticulture and viticulture sectors, Monarch runs four distinct businesses: Hortus, Ukko, Ceed and Tātou.

Monarch manages vineyards (Ukko) and orchards (Ceed) for leading growers, operate one of the country’s most respected RSE workforces (Hortus), and develop their own SaaS technology (Tātou). The finance function has recently been redesigned to support the next phase of growth, and this newly created Financial Accountant role is part of building a stronger, sharper, more scalable finance platform.

This role can be based at the Blenheim head office, or worked remotely for the right person.

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Financial Performance, the Financial Accountant is right at the centre of keeping Monarch’s financial engine running smoothly. You’ll get stuck into the general ledger, reconciliations, statutory returns, financial controls and month-end processes, the core stuff that keeps the business confident in its numbers.

You’ll work closely with AR/AP, Payroll and Finance Associates, helping build a finance foundation that’s tight, reliable and able to keep up with a company that moves fast and isn’t afraid to disrupt the norm.

If you’re coming out of a CA firm, or early career accounting and want your first proper commercial role, this is exactly the kind of environment where you’ll learn quickly and get exposure across multiple entities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements across group entities
  • Maintaining the general ledger, including journals and reconciliations
  • Supporting fixed asset management and depreciation
  • Preparing GST, FBT, PAYE and other statutory returns
  • Strengthening financial controls and ensuring data accuracy
  • Assisting with cash flow and treasury reporting
  • Supporting external audits and responding to auditor queries
  • Working closely with AR/AP and Payroll to keep transactional processes humming

You’ll be working in Xero, with reporting tools evolving as the finance function continues to modernise.

About You

You might be stepping into your first commercial accounting role, or you’ve already had a taste and want broader exposure. You learn fast, enjoy pace, and don’t mind rolling up your sleeves when things get busy.

You’re methodical with reconciliations and controls, detail driven, and comfortable getting into the weeds with process, people and systems. Most importantly, you fit Monarch’s MAP values: hungry, humble, and smart. You like being part of a team that backs each other, moves quickly and keeps things real.

Company Culture

Monarch is a values driven organisation with a straight up, no ego, no nonsense approach. They deliver, they learn, they disrupt, they care, and they have fun along the way. Different perspectives are welcomed, support is genuine, and people take pride in building something meaningful together.

If you want a role where you’ll grow quickly, gain broad exposure, and be part of a company scaling nationwide, this is a standout opportunity.
