About the Role
This is a newly created role which will lead a high-performing finance team, providing strategic financial direction to the Group Manager – Finance and Assurance, the CEO and the Invercargill City Holdings Ltd Board. The CFO will provide expert guidance and drive financial performance, overseeing financial planning, treasury management, budgeting, and risk mitigation, and ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and best practices.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the city’s future by delivering high-quality financial insights and enabling informed decision-making at the executive and governance levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a dynamic finance team to drive operational excellence
- Provide strategic financial advice to Council, ICHL, and key stakeholders
- Oversee financial planning, forecasting, and reporting
- Manage treasury, debt, and investment portfolios effectively
- Ensure compliance with financial policies, statutory obligations, and best practices
- Drive innovation in financial management and reporting systems
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and elected representatives
What You Bring
- CA Qualification – Chartered Accountant (CA) membership with CAANZ
- Extensive Financial Leadership – 10+ years of experience in financial management, including strategy, treasury, and governance
- Change Leadership – Proven ability to drive positive organisational change
- Stakeholder Engagement – Exceptional ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly to diverse audiences
- Technical Expertise – Strong financial modelling, reporting, and compliance knowledge, particularly in local government or similar environments
- Innovative Thinking – A strategic mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement
