General Manager
Professional Services and Consulting
Christchurch, Canterbury
July 6, 2026
- Trusted independent valuation practice with a proud history
- Strategic and operational role with genuine influence
- Flexible 0.8 FTE leadership opportunity
Lead the business, support the Directors and help shape the future.
FordBaker Valuation Ltd is the largest locally-owned and independent valuation and property advisory company in Christchurch. It was established in 1988 after the merger of two of Christchurch’s oldest and most respected valuation/real estate companies: Ford and Hadfield (Est 1906) and Baker Bros (Est 1877). Today, the Directors remain actively involved in delivering professional services to clients, creating an opportunity for an experienced business leader to take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the practice, while helping to shape its next stage of growth.
This General Manager role offers a rare combination of operational leadership and strategic influence. Working closely with the Directors, you will lead the business support functions, oversee a capable administration and finance team, drive business planning, improve systems and processes, strengthen financial and operational performance, coordinate marketing and business development initiatives, and ensure the organisation continues to deliver an exceptional client experience. As the Directors focus on leading the service delivery and growing the business, you will provide the leadership that keeps the organisation operating efficiently while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and future growth.
This position is offered on a 0.8 FTE basis, with flexibility around how the hours are worked, making it an excellent opportunity for an experienced senior leader seeking greater work-life balance without compromising on the scope or impact of the role.
We are seeking an experienced senior manager with a proven track record in business or operational leadership ideally within financial services and or other professional services environments. You will be commercially astute, highly organised and equally comfortable working strategically with the Directors as you are leading operational improvement across the business. Your ability to build trusted relationships, help develop people, implement practical business improvements and foster a positive, high-performing culture will all be integral to your success.
If you are looking for a leadership opportunity where your contribution will be visible, valued and genuinely influence the future direction of an established and highly regarded Canterbury business, we would welcome your application.
