A medium-sized Christchurch organisation is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead its finance function and support ongoing organisational performance. This is a broad role with full responsibility for financial management, reporting, and continuous improvement, while guiding a small, capable team.
The Opportunity
You’ll take ownership of the finance function, ensuring accurate reporting, strong controls, and well run financial processes. Alongside the core remit, you’ll contribute to wider business initiatives, support operational decision-making, and help strengthen systems, structures, and future focused capability.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Overseeing financial reporting, forecasting, and month-end processes
- Maintaining compliance across tax, statutory obligations, and governance requirements
- Leading improvements to systems, processes, and financial controls
- Supporting analysis of costs, margins, and operational performance
- Providing insight and guidance to senior leaders to inform commercial decisions
- Managing fixed assets, registers, depreciation, and related operational oversight
- Ensuring accurate administration and monitoring of internal funds and programmes
- Reviewing payroll outputs to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Contributing to strategic projects and organisational development activities
- Coaching and developing a small finance team while remaining hands-on in delivery
About You
You’ll bring a blend of technical expertise, leadership capability, and practical problem solving. To succeed, you will have:
- CA, CPA, or equivalent professional qualification
- Strong grounding in financial reporting, technical accounting, and relevant standards
- Senior-level experience across financial control, reporting, or commercial finance
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop team members
- Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders and influencing across the organisation
- Excellent analytical, communication, and organisational skills
- A mindset focused on improvement, structure, and strengthening systems and processes
