A respected New Zealand business with operations across several sites is looking for an Accounts & Payroll Assistant to join its friendly and fast-paced finance team. This is a varied role that blends day-to-day accounting support, banking and reconciliations, and general administrative coordination, alongside responsibility for a weekly payroll of around 100 employees.

The role

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys being across multiple parts of the finance function and likes the balance of routine tasks with plenty of variety. The role supports the smooth running of daily financial activity and provides essential backup across the wider team.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Managing daily bank activity and ensuring accounts are accurately reconciled
  • Updating short-term cashflow information and supporting financial reporting
  • Assisting with customer invoicing, receipting, and resolving account queries
  • Providing cover for Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable when required
  • Completing weekly payroll processing, including timesheet checks, and statutory filings

About you

This role will suit someone who is organised, steady under pressure, and enjoys being the person others rely on to keep things running smoothly. You will bring:

  • Experience in payroll processing, ideally in an environment with varied working patterns
  • A background in finance administration, including reconciliations and invoicing
  • Confidence using finance or payroll systems and strong Excel capability
  • Clear communication skills and a practical, solutions-focused approach
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to support colleagues across the team
