They are seeking an experienced Senior HR Advisor to join their Christchurch based head office team. This newly established role combines senior HR advisory responsibilities with the coordination of their health and safety systems and programmes, making it an ideal opportunity for an experienced Senior HR Advisor & Health & Safety Coordinator who enjoys a broad, hands-on role within a practical business environment.

About the Role

Reporting to the Head Branch Manager, you will work closely with leaders and employees across the business, providing trusted advice on people matters while helping to maintain a safe, compliant, and engaged workplace.

This is a varied role offering flexibility of approximately 20–25 hours per week where no two days are the same. You will support managers across the full employee lifecycle, contribute to organisational capability and culture, and coordinate key health and safety initiatives and systems improvements.

Your responsibilities will include:

Human Resources

  • Providing practical HR advice and coaching to managers and employees
  • Supporting performance management, employee relations, investigations and disciplinary processes
  • Managing recruitment, on boarding and induction activities
  • Assisting with workforce planning, succession planning and learning & development
  • Maintaining HR policies and ensuring compliance with employment legislation
  • Contributing to employee engagement and organisational improvement initiatives

Health & Safety

  • Coordinating and maintaining the Health & Safety Management System
  • Supporting managers with hazard identification, risk assessment and risk management
  • Coordinating incident reporting, investigations and corrective actions
  • Monitoring injury management and return-to-work programmes
  • Facilitating health and safety training and inductions
  • Supporting Health & Safety Committee activities and employee participation
  • Preparing health and safety reporting and compliance documentation

About You

You will be an experienced HR professional who enjoys building trusted relationships, providing practical advice, and helping leaders achieve positive people outcomes. Confident working independently, you will have excellent judgement, and take a proactive approach to solving problems.

You will ideally bring:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in a related discipline is preferred
  • At least five years' experience in other senior HR advisory or business partnering roles
  • Strong knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation and HR best practice
  • Experience supporting managers across a broad range of people matters
  • Excellent communication, influencing and relationship management skills
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience coordinating health and safety systems and programmes
  • Experience working in similar operational environments would be advantageous
