Baker Boys is a proud Christchurch based 30-year privately owned, private label and brand manufacturer of non-yeast baked goods. Baker Boys holds well established relationships amongst the major FMCG retailers and Food Service industry across Australasia. Holding multiple international Food Standard certifications Baker Boys has worked hard to develop a strong position within the Food industry as a leader in its field. 

Due to a maternity leave situation, there currently exists an opportunity for an experienced and capable Quality Systems Officer to come in for 12 months on a fixed-term to contract continue the implementation of the quality strategy and best practice. Reporting to the Quality Manager, you will have a hands-on mentality, will champion both food safety and quality and have a strong remit for best practice.

The role:

  • Creation and advocacy of food and ingredient safety and compliance systems
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with all current food safety legislation and certifications including BRC, MPI Custom Food Control Plan, Woolworths Supplier Excellence Program and Coles Programs
  • Reviewing & updating SOPs and ensuring compliance to them
  • Authoring and documentation of quality policy, processes and SOPs
  • Verification of all compliance records
  • Conducting monthly GMP audits
  • Coordination of daily samples for the laboratory
  • Managing the non-conformance and corrective action reporting system
  • Conducting monthly environmental swabbing
  • Daily approval of maintenance tasks on Fiix system
  • Completion of assigned internal audits
  • Monitoring of the holds system
  • Conducting on-site verification of processes and procedures
  • Monitoring product quality ensuring standards are always met
  • Conducting food safety training
  • Identifying areas for continuous improvement

Skills and experience:

  • Food or Pharmaceutical industry background advantageous but not a must have
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications also advantageous but not a must have
  • Familiarity with Food quality compliance planning a nice to have but not an absolute
  • Experience working with regulatory bodies to maintain registrations
  • Ideally experience with certifications (e.g. ISOs) and internal auditing experience
  • Proven track record of achieving quality targets
  • Engagement skills to deal with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
  • Understanding of quality systems in the food industry
  • Approachable and friendly nature
  • A positive, "can-do" attitude
  • Good attention to detail
